Looking for a specific electronic component and not finding it in regular webshops? Start with the part number, manufacturer number or brand instead of a broad product name.

Those details are often more reliable than a general description. The same component can be named differently by different suppliers, while the manufacturer part number or type number points to the exact item.

1. Start with the number on the component

Check whether you have one of these details:

  • manufacturer part number;
  • part number;
  • type number;
  • brand or manufacturer;
  • code or marking on the component;
  • value or specification.

The more specific your search is, the better the chance of finding the right component.

2. Do not rely only on the product name

A general product name can be too broad. It is usually better to search for the exact number or marking than only for "capacitor", "switch" or "connector".

With technical components, small differences can matter.

3. Check the specifications before choosing an alternative

Does a component look similar to the original? Still check the specifications.

Depending on the component, check details such as voltage, current, capacitance, tolerance, package, dimensions, pinout, mounting style and datasheet.

A similar-looking part is not automatically a suitable replacement.

4. Search broadly first, then use targeted search at Sinuss

Start on the Sinuss search page with the most exact term you have, such as a manufacturer number, part number, brand, value or product group.

No result? Four targeted buttons appear for article number, brand, product type and product name. They search the same term again in one specific field, which can help when a broad search returns nothing.

Always check the product page, specifications and datasheet before ordering. A search match does not prove technical compatibility.

For more background, read Ordering Farnell components through Sinuss.

5. Still no result? Request the product

If the component is not listed, use the request form on the search page. The unsuccessful search term is prefilled in the first product row.

You can include up to ten products in one request. For each product, preferably enter the brand, article number or SKU, a clear description and the required quantity. You only need to provide your contact details once.

Sinuss will ask Farnell whether the product is available and contact you afterwards. A request is not a delivery or compatibility guarantee.

After submitting, you will see a confirmation page. No automatic confirmation email is sent.

6. What Sinuss can and cannot promise

Sinuss can ask Farnell whether a component is available. That does not mean every component is always available or every alternative is technically suitable.

When in doubt, use the datasheet, schematic or manufacturer information.

Summary

  1. search by manufacturer number or part number;
  2. note the brand, marking and specifications;
  3. try the targeted search buttons;
  4. check the product page and datasheet;
  5. request one or up to ten products at once if needed.

Search precisely at Sinuss or use the product request form on the same page.
